art of the brick @ melbourne showgrounds, flemington

Art lovers AND LEGO fans are going to enjoy the Art of the Brick Immersive Experience. The gallery of incredible giant sized LEGO creations from American artist Nathan Sawaya, can be found at the Melbourne Showgrounds from April this year. There are over one million bricks in the one space and these sculptures are not held together with any glue! That means NO TOUCHING!

The gallery is set up into multiple rooms and allow you and the family to get up nice and close to these artworks that are often larger than life. Kids will love the colours in the rainbow room and a human conga line, and the adults will appreciate the deeper meanings communicated through some of the tormented human forms in the following rooms.

The Kinetic skull display is pretty awesome as 250 skulls levitate in time with music and lights, in a mirrored room, making it feel like they go on forever.

We also love the animal kingdom, the last room in the exhibition. There are some comfy beanbags here where you can enjoy the landscape change via the video on the walls, all while surrounded by a jungle of LEGO animals.

There is a small hands-on section for the kids to make something from LEGO themselves, colour in some paper versions of Nathan’s creations or play LEGO themed video games.
