Mamma says it’s time to go FULL STEAM ahead for adventure! The Victorian Goldfields Railway is such a great family outing, to experience the joy of riding in an old steam train, getting a glimpse of life in another time. Hop on the train at either Maldon or Castlemaine and coast along for about 45-50 minutes through lovely bushland and along trails. Spot the sheep and cows, poke your head out the window and wave at all the onlookers!
We started our journey in Castlemaine and then stopped at Maldon Station with 2.5hours before our return trip. Just enough time for the 12 minute walk to the main strip, a delicious pub lunch at The Kangaroo Hotel and a browse through Little Red Books secondhand store and The Maldon Lolly Shop! Or alternatively, start at Maldon and then spend a couple of hours exploring Castlemaine.
Over the school holidays there is sometimes some sweet clown entertainment and extra times are often added. Toot Toot!
