nangak tamboree (formerly la trobe) wildlife sanctuary, bundoora

Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary consists of 30 hectares of open-range wood, grass and wetlands and is a real hidden treasure. For a gold coin donation you can do a self-guided walk, taking a map and exploring native flora and fauna and just generally becoming absorbed in nature, breathing the fresh air. There are 2 self-guided walks to choose from, a 10-minute or a 45-minute option. Mamma and her little animal enthusiasts love the longer stroll and have spotted kangaroos, kookaburras, lots of frogs and several birds and ducks while wandering. It’s also fun to check out the different plants and trees and spot insects and coloured mushrooms along the way.

The sanctuary also offers Guided Group Tours in the day and Twilight Tours where a tour guide will tell you about the ecosystem and help you to spot the nocturnal animals when they come out at night. There’s also a retail shop and native plant nursery and a guest lounge with some cool, preserved animal specimens to check out before you start your walk.

Mamma's special mention: Keen for some more wholesome family fun while you’re in the area? Check out Bundoora Park Farm!
