There are HEAPS of walks all around the Werribee Gorge State Park, perhaps the best one for our family is the River Walk.
The River Walk
This is Mamma and the crew’s fave track over the years, it has proved to be challenging enough but also doable for little legs. The scenery is lovely and there is plenty of opportunities to take in some picturesque views. The river walk is easy to get to and you can do as little or as much of the track as you like. The track follows the Werribee river and an old aqua duct that used to supply Bacchus Marsh water!
There is a little bit of ‘rock climbing’ to do and the sides are steep so please be careful and have your best walking shoes on. The track narrows to a one-person lane at points, with a steep drop off one edge, which can make it really tricky for preschoolers - Mamma recommends this walk for primary aged kids and up. And as it is gravel and dirt, the track can be slippery in the wet.
Apart from the River Walk, there is something for everyone with different levels and experience so it is a good idea to do plenty of research on this place before setting off with the kids in tow. Nearby the River Walk, a 400m Discovery Trail loop is a flat journey with a bit of wildlife and flora to lookout for. This is especially interesting for kids who want to spot the poo and guess the animal!

Yes, it says WERRIBEE Gorge, but it is located in the Bacchus Marsh area.
The best entrance for this walk is Meikles Point Picnic Area,
toilets in the picnic area - no bins, take rubbish home - not suited for prams or wheelchairs - no dogs

Like with any hiking, walking or trekking in our national parks, you need to be prepared with water and snacks and the appropriate clothing and footwear.
