wirrawilla rainforest walk, toolangi

Had someone shown me the photos and asked me where in Australia this oasis might be… I would have thought Queensland … maybe. BUZZZZZ - WRONG! Mamma was never amazing at geography because this beautiful rainforest is right on our own north-east backyard, in Toolangi.

Wirrawilla Rainforest Walk makes for a peaceful and easy family walk into the Toolangi Forest. The trail consists of fresh boardwalks right amongst the ferns and snaking over the creeks and gentle cascades. The track is probably only a 1km loop and you will ace this one with a pram.

You will love how cool it is amongst the shade of this little valley - aptly named Wirrawilla, the local Koori name for green trees. Mamma’s only wish was for her own children to slow down and really take in the magic of the forest, instead of racing from platform to platform.

the nitty gritty

small carpark - dirt road access (fine for 2x2) - toilets at carpark - boardwalk is accessible for prams (all new boardwalks in 2022) - level walkways - picnic table at carpark - gentle creek water - more advanced trails nearby

Car park near junction of Sylvia Creek Rd and Quarry Rd, Toolangi

Mamma's special mention:

There is more to explore in the area including the Toolangi Sculpture Trail.
