fairfield park boathouse, fairfield

Established in 1908, the Fairfield Boathouse has seen many changes and renovations since then. However, do not be surprised to be greeted by the majestic vintage beauty that has been so well preserved. Situated right by the Yarra River, you can’t help but feel happy, and dare we say relaxed?  It’s a great place for the whole family to slow down and get back in touch with nature.

Serving up a variety of breakfast, lunch and tea options, there will be something for every kind of eater. Grab a couple of their freshly baked Devonshire scones, paired with a generous helping of cream and delicious strawberry jam, or have something heartier like the Boatman’s Breakfast - fried eggs, bacon, grilled chorizo, field mushrooms, tomato relish on a slice of toasted sourdough. For the young ones, check out the Little Nippers and the River Bites section of the menu. It will not disappoint. Mamma and the little one can never pass up on a good chocolate shake, and the ones here were to die for! With it’s kid size option, everyone can have one for themselves.

Don’t fill up too quickly though, as you’ll want to save some space for when you get out on the river in a rowboat! Head downstairs to grab a lifejacket or two, rent a couple of oars and set out on the water. With a max capacity of 5 people per Gentleman’s Rowing Boat, no one need miss out - not even our furry friends! Or simply stay on the boardwalk to feed the ducks (get a packet at the boat office for just 50c) and watch the boats go by. Check out their website for boat hire prices, menus, or event hire - the next birthday bash, perhaps?

Mamma’s special mention: Fairfield Park playground is just around the corner. While Fox in Sox and the Fairfield Library is only a 15 min walk away.
