kissaten, alphington

Mamma remembers this great, unique cafe venue from childhood visits with her Grandma! Fast forward a few years and now THAT cafe is Kissaten - a bright and spacious, kid friendly, Australian/Japanese restaurant mixing classic brunch staples with Japanese flavours.

Mamma loves a place where she can get a good coffee and a bowl of ramen at breakfast time! You’ll also find the usual brunch options like eggs, bacon, avocado on toast and Bircher muesli but Mamma thinks the dishes that shine the brightest are the mixes of classic aussie brunch food with delicate Japanese flavours. Dishes like the Loaded Okonomiyaki Fries and the Meri Miso Scrambled Eggs. YUM.

The kids menu is great and word is that there will soon be a kids breakfast ramen dish added, perfect as the little one only had eyes for Mamma’s noodles!

There’s also a beautiful selection of Japanese teas, fitting with the venue’s name which is inspired by the Kissatens of Japan - traditional Japanese tea rooms that also serve as coffee shops.

There’s a gorgeous, spacious (and dog friendly) Japanese courtyard and the interior is bright and light filled. There are toys and books for the little ones and colouring in activities as well. This is a welcoming and well planned space where you’ll want to stay on for a second cup of coffee! It’s perfect for your next kid friendly catch up! Oh and there’s a car park on site (behind) which is just super convenient!

Mamma's special mention: A little further down the road is the beautiful Fairfield Boathouse, if you haven’t been or you haven’t been LATELY Mamma definitely recommends you check it out! Have a run around the gorgeous, spacious parks or cruise along the river in a wooden row boat - and you can take the pooch too!
