nature play the wurundjeri way @ melbourne zoo, parkville

Go wild at Nature Play in Melbourne Zoo! This beautiful natural space, hidden amongst the Australian animal enclosures, invites children of all ages to connect with nature through play. There are rocks and tree stumps to climb, tunnels to crawl through, sticks galore and plenty of hiding spots amongst all the trees.

The space is open all year round, however, every weekday during the school terms at 10:30-11:30 am, Melbourne zookeepers set up the Nature Play space with animal-related activities that are super engaging and a great way to learn about certain animal families, habitats and diets. You will also find painting, dress-ups, tools to help you investigate the environment and even water play, all of which you can freely explore.

During the hour session, children are also welcome to partake in stories and songs with the zookeeper on the mat, and sometimes they might just have some special zoo artifacts to show off and pass around.

There’s no need to book, and you can come and go as you please. The Nature Play space is fully fenced, however, pram access can be difficult outside of the facilitated play session (The zookeeper opens a side gate for easier access).
