heide mini artists @ heide, bulleen

If there is one hot ticket in town for experiencing hands on art and culture, it has to be Heide Mini Artists. So hot in fact - they book out weeks in advance. Mamma knows why - the program is FANTASTIC. The small groups are invited to the gallery to explore current themes and get to see what is like in a real life gallery. We are lead through a suitable story and activities that are inspired by the artwork on display. It might be the patterns from a tiled fireplace, the colours in the art pieces or the themes imbedded into the art pieces. Either way, parent and child get making before heading to the Sidney Myer Education Centre for the real messy stuff. Depending on the theme or the activity tables are stocked with materials for hands on fun so it is art smocks on and let them go! Glue, glitter, sequins and paper make for some unique patterns and designs. Add latte for Mamma, a babycino in it’s own takeaway cup, some fruit and a sandwich - this art class business is pretty special.

Mamma’s special mention: Smock and a change of clothes are a must - making art can be messy work so do make sure you are prepared - you too Mamma! After your session be sure to wander through the Sculpture Garden and the rest of the galleries as entry to the rest of the gallery is included in your ticket price.
